Born over half
a century ago to artists, my entire life has been one long, joyous
exploration of creativity. I was lucky to be born and raised in
a rural setting in Pennsylvania that was close to New York, Philadelphia
and Washington DC. Most weekends were spent in art museums or
experimenting with the new art materials that were flooding the
market in the sixties. My father was a commercial artist and cartoonist.
My mother's deepest interests were the fiber arts and she had
me on a sewing machine by the time I was seven. My lifelong fascination
with thread began then.
As a young woman
I spent a fair amount of time exploring painting, sculpting, clay
and jewelry making. I decided that I was a scuptor at heart but
also decided that I didn't have the maturity needed to fully express
my vision. I assuaged my sculptural yearnings in clothing design
and construction.
